Point of view

I've been loitering in the photographic sections for far too long, decided I'd take a look at some more 'traditional' art.
Thought I'd pick out three utterly different approaches to what are is essentially the same thing, a head and shoulders shot.

Doin' it for the kids

Having a couple of kids myself I have recently grown to appreciate exactly how utterly amazing children are, until you start hanging around with them again you tend forget how amazingly untainted life as a kid can be. The wide eyed optimism, the unquenchable excitement and the riotous imagination.
While not all of this can necessarily be captured on camera it's amazing to see how much personality and emotion can be squeezed into a head and shoulders shot.

Randoms I

No theme today just three photos that jumped off the screen at me over the last couple of days.
These three I really love, It's so easy to trawl through dA and 'favourite' lots of nice pictures and photos, theres so much good stuff on there, but there are some that really stand out head and shoulders above the rest and these (for me) are three of them.
As I've said before, it's difficult to know what draws you into a photo, what gives it personal resonance to the viewer. A good photo is so much more than just a true representaion of what is in front of the lens (I do that every day at work capturing tools for a website, it's dull), it is, surely, about creating something that makes peoples brains go warm, makes their eyes widen slightly, makes the corners of thier mouth twitch, maybe even making something downstairs twitch.

Red or Dead

Ever since I realised at the tender age of 6 or 7 that I was utterly besotted with this flame haired girl from my school called Emily, I've had a thing for red hair.
Whether it be unashamedly ginger, slow burning auburn or straight from a bottle pillar box red, it's all good.
An wow does it photograph well, couple of tweaks and boom, hair explosion!

I Love seeing an image, not being entirely sure what the hell it actually is but still loving it.

The Naked Truth

I couldn't tell you where the line is drawn between 'Artistic Nudes' and Porn, I suppose Google or Wikipedia will have an answer but I'd rather think it through myself to be honest.
I suppose you could say that that Porn is intended to arouse the viewer, that that is it's very purpose, any additional artistic merit or increased production values are purely incidental.
Artistic Nudes (very much capitalised) on the other hand are a study of the human form in all it's beauty, a more intellectual or artistic exercise perhaps..
This being said, I'm not sure that my Mum, or indeed my Wife or my Boss (also all very much capitalised!), would be entirely convinced by me looking at too much of either.
Met-Art certainly straddle the two mediums with great style. Unashamedly a pay-to-view porn site but with incredibly high production values and amazing photography.

And in the end, perhaps, all this pigeonholing is unnecessary. I would take stab at guessing that women are the most photographed subjects on dA, both clothed and unclothed. Rightly so, for they are surely the subjects most worthy of photographing.

Below are three brilliant photographs that contain naked or nearly naked women.

Closer

There are an awful lot of uninspiring macro shots on dA.
Most are well taken and indeed most are very clever.. But most also fail to make me look twice.
The three below stand out, difficult to justify why, I'm sure we're all drawn to different things, but for me these all make me try to look even closer.

depthCORE daemons

Some amazing digital art from the depthCORE group.
These three pieces give me goosebumps, I'm not sure to what degree these things are actually supposed to be something, but to me they could easily be some scary as fuck Demonic Elementals. Not dodgy old D&D or Warhammer ones but seriously now Elementals.
They'll have websites and and FaceBook pages dedicated to them. No sacrificing of animals, or prayers to these guys, just more and more bandwidth and lots of friendship requests.
Oh, and you really need to click on these to see them at full size, these blog pics really don't do them justice.

Fract up

I have a 'very' basic understanding of fractals, Mandelbrot sets and chaos theory etc but I never new such diversity and beauty existed as a result of messing with them artistically.
I can't say if its my love of symmetry, some yet-to-disperse Lysergic acid diethylamide from back-in-the-day still floating around in my noggin or that my wife is correct when she suggests I'm just a little bit more than not-autistic, but by God it's easy to get lost in these things.

The Idea

I've recently joined the deviantART 'community' and been utterly astounded by the amount of stunning visual art constantly flooding through their gates.

This Blog is an attempt to keep track of some of the stuff that I've found that I think stands out.

This blog is about other peoples work not mine and I won't be posting anything I've come up with. If for however you do want to track me down on dA then you can find me here.

It's worth mentioning that you can click on the images to see them at full size.
Which you should do ;)
