There's a hell of a lot of manga/anime based art on dA. My manga experience extends no further than the Gibli Studio releases and old school stuff like Akira so i don't pretend to know all the sub genres or terminology but below is a selection some different stuff that to me seems to come from that kind of background. Check out the individual artists' dA profiles too, some stunning stuff there.
Laflaneuse has a very wide and varied output on dA but the selection below are some of an ongoing series that has really caught my eye recently. Hinted at human forms, some of the best natural looking grunge i have seen and some beautifully subtle desaturated, yet warm, colours. Lovely stuff!
So often it's the eyes that draw you into a person, that drag you into a photo. What happens when you take them out of the equation? What are your eyes drawn to?
I'm not a trained photographer or schooled artist but to my mind these shots perfectly exemplify how to choose a background that compliments the object of the viewer's focus. All three brilliantly pick out elements of the models and match them with their surroundings, beautiful stuff. Remember to click on the images to see them at full size!
Thought it was about time i features some blokes here on The Beholden. I think it's a generally accepted fact fact that ladies are the fairer sex and that is certainly reflected in the number of photos of men vs women on dA. Maybe being a red blooded chap blinkers me to the few shots of men there are? Certainly the photos have to be of a higher quality or more unusual or interesting to grab my attention. Maybe it means that I'm more able to judge the photo itself and not just the pretty face featured in it even.
When you spend enough time sifting through dA there are certain themes that repeat themselves, certain settings that people come back to. For the self portraiting photographer common items around the house pop up more and more, today: the bed.
